Ex-NSB Boss Adu-Boahene rearrested over fresh case after completing remand

Former National Signals Bureau Director, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, remains in detention despite the expiration of his initial court-ordered remand, as fresh developments emerge in his legal troubles.

Adu-Boahene, a former high-ranking national security official, was originally remanded on Friday, May 2, after the prosecution raised concerns about alleged witness tampering. He is facing serious charges including stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state, particularly in relation to the alleged diversion of GH¢49.1 million.

On Tuesday, May 13, when the case returned to court, his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, revealed that his client had been rearrested on a different matter after the initial seven working day remand period had expired. Atta Akyea, however, did not disclose the full details surrounding this new arrest.

This new development appears to tie into earlier disclosures made by the Attorney General, who told the court that Adu-Boahene was also under investigation for a separate issue involving internet connectivity services at Ghana Water Limited. The state has not yet provided further clarity on this aspect of the probe.

Meanwhile, in the main case regarding the financial loss allegation, the trial is moving toward its next phase. The court has adjourned proceedings to May 26 for a case management conference, a key procedural step before full trial begins. Prosecutors have submitted all witness statements and are required to make them available to the defense no later than May 20.

Adu-Boahene’s extended stay in custody and the multiple layers of investigations surrounding him underscore the complexity and seriousness of the allegations he faces. His legal team is expected to challenge the grounds for his continued detention in the coming hearings.
