Youth activist calls for Sammy Gyamfi's suspension over dollar gift controversy

  Tue, 13 May 2025

A youth activist has condemned the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, over a viral video showing him gifting Evangelist Mama Pat a bundle of US dollars.

In a statement, Delanyo Agbe called for Gyamfi's immediate suspension pending a thorough investigation into the matter.

The activist cited the recently launched Code of Conduct by the President, emphasizing that Gyamfi's actions are a clear violation of the code's principles of integrity, transparency, and accountability.

The activist also highlighted the disparity in support for grassroots members, stating that while Gyamfi splashes huge amounts of money on individuals who work against the party, ordinary members struggle to make ends meet.

A Call to Action: Accountability And Integrity In Public Office

As a youth activist, I am appalled and disappointed by the recent actions of Sammy Gyamfi, the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. The viral video showing him gifting Evangelist Mama Pat a bundle of US dollars is a stark reminder of the deep-seated corruption and lack of accountability that plagues our public institutions.

Gyamfi's actions are a betrayal of the trust placed in him as a public official. The Code of Conduct launched by the President emphasizes the importance of integrity, transparency, and accountability in public office. Gyamfi's actions are a clear violation of this code, and it is imperative that he is held accountable.

While Gyamfi splashes huge amounts of money on individuals who work against the party, our grassroots members struggle to make ends meet. This is unacceptable. As a party, we claim to champion the cause of the common man, but our actions suggest otherwise. We need to prioritize the needs of our grassroots members and ensure that they receive the support they deserve.

Our party's founder, Jerry John Rawlings, was a champion of accountability and social justice. He fought tirelessly against corruption and ensured that public officials were held accountable for their actions. We must draw inspiration from his legacy and ensure that our public officials uphold the same values of integrity and transparency.

A Call to Action
We call on the President to take immediate action to address this issue. Gyamfi must be investigated, and if found guilty, he must face the full weight of the law. We also demand that the President takes concrete steps to eradicate corruption in public institutions and ensure that public officials are held accountable for their actions.

As youth activists, we will not stand idly by while corruption and impunity thrive in our public institutions. We will continue to speak truth to power and demand accountability from our leaders. The President must act now to restore the public's trust in our institutions and ensure that our public officials uphold the highest standards of integrity and transparency.
