The one-week observation of the late Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, drew an overwhelming crowd, with thousands of mourners gathering in Asante Mampong to pay their respects.
The event, held at the forecourt of the Asante Mampong Palace, exceeded expectations as mourners from across the country and beyond filled the venue to capacity, leaving many others standing outside.
Among the high-profile dignitaries in attendance were former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former GNPC Board Chairman Hon. Kennedy Agyapong; Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene; and former Education Minister Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum.
Also present were paramount chiefs, queen mothers, members of the clergy, security personnel, and representatives from various government departments and agencies.
Chairman of the Planning Committee and Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II, expressed deep appreciation to all mourners who came to honour the late chief. Speaking to OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng, he noted that the turnout was a fitting tribute to a man of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II’s stature.
He described the late Mamponghene as a distinguished statesman who served Asanteman and Ghana with integrity and dedication.
Barimah Osei Hwedie II called on the public to continue supporting the Asante Mampong Traditional Council as preparations for the final funeral rites continue.
