Ho: Three jailed 19 years for robbing man of iPhone 6s
The Ho Circuit Court has sentenced three young persons, including a 22-year-old woman, to a total of 19 years in prison for robbing a man of his iPhone 6s.
The court, presided over by His Honour Osman Abdul-Hakeem, convicted the trio after they pleaded guilty to two counts — conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
The convicts are Mercy Sokpe, 22, Atsu Kamasa, 25, and Godfred Dzidonu, 19.
According to a police statement dated May 10, the incident occurred on May 4, 2025, around 4:30pm near the Ho Central Market.
The victim, Elijah Torgbedzi, 21, was lured by the female convict, Mercy Sokpe, who asked to use his phone to take a selfie.
“In the process of taking the selfie, she signaled her two accomplices who attacked the complainant with a pair of scissors and bolted with the iPhone,” the statement noted.
The complainant raised an alarm, leading to the arrest of Godfred Dzidonu with the stolen phone. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of the other two from their hideouts in Ho.
On May 9, all three were arraigned before the court. They were each sentenced to three years for conspiracy.
Kamasa and Dzidonu further received five more years each for robbery.
The statement, signed by DSP Felix Danku of the Public Affairs Unit, advised the public to remain alert and cautious of individuals who may approach them under false pretenses.
