Dear critical reader, as Ghana's new administration of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang proceeds with resetting the nation's bankrupted national economy, at a time when climate change is also impacting our country so negatively, the question to ponder is: What will be the end game for Ghana if the lack of political will (across the spectrum) to end illegal gold mining persists? There is no gainsaying the fact that, as sure as day follows night, galamsey will lead to a descent into violence and chaos by bold and fearless warlord-types on an unimaginable scale, threatening the long-term stability of our nation and its future as a peaceful constitutional democracy where the safety and security of law-abiding citizens in communities nationwide are assured, oooo, Ghanafuor.
The current Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Honourable Kofi Armah-Bua, is right in saying that the fight against galamsey is regarded as a fight against terrorism by the administration of President John Dramani Mahama and Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Nothing could be more dangerous in derailing Ghanaian democracy and the peace and stability it has brought Ghanaians generally than allowing society as a whole to be held hostage by lawless warlord-types unhinged by greed for gold that's unfathomable, who have arsenals of powerful and sophisticated weaponry and are prepared to use them against those who stand in their way, oooo, Ghanafuor.
As far as they are concerned, they are fighting an undeclared war against a nation that isn't aware it is facing aggressors in a war of survival that is existential in nature, ooooo, Ghanafuor. We must wake up to the real menace posed by galamsey and end it once and for all. Making the Forestry Commission a specialised unit of the Ghana Armed Forces and declaring all forest reserves as security zones where all surface mining is banned and entry is permissible only with the written permission of the Military High Command will be a good strategy to adopt, for starters, in ending galamsey, illegal logging for chainsaw bushcut lumber production, and other illegalities such as hunting. Yoooooooo. A word to the wise...
