Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has ordered the immediate closure of a mobile mini restaurant operating with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at the Total Filling Station on Oxford Street in Osu, Accra.

The decision follows the circulation of a viral video on social media, which showed the food vendor using open flames dangerously close to fuel pumps—a serious breach of fire safety regulations and an imminent fire hazard.

Fuel stations, according to the GNFS, are classified as high-risk zones due to the storage of highly flammable substances, and activities involving open flames, LPG, or any spark-generating equipment in such environments are strictly prohibited and punishable by law.

DCFO Daniella Mawusi Ntow-Sapong, acting Chief Fire Officer, has since directed intensified inspections at fuel and gas stations nationwide.

She warned that individuals or businesses found violating safety protocols will face strict legal consequences.

“The GNFS remains committed to working collaboratively with fuel and gas station operators to ensure full compliance with safety standards,” part of the statement noted.
