Tensions ran high in Berekum in the Bono Region when former Assin Central MP and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, clashed publicly with the party’s Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, during the NPP’s Thank You Tour on Monday, April 28, 2025.

What was intended as a unifying event following the 2024 elections took a dramatic turn as the two senior figures engaged in a heated exchange before party supporters.

Kwame Baffoe Abronye, while addressing the crowd, appeared to throw a veiled jab at Mr. Agyapong, accusing him of behavior that had harmed the party’s unity.

“Some people are noted for saying things that destroy the party and then later come and turn around and peace, peace,” Abronye said, a comment that stirred visible unrest among the gathered supporters.

Many interpreted Abronye’s remarks as a direct criticism of Mr. Agyapong’s actions during the NPP’s flagbearer contest.

Visibly angered, Mr. Agyapong hit back sharply, questioning Abronye’s authority with the retort, “Who born dog.”

He added that it was only in the realm of politics that “poor people can stand and talk” when he speaks, further escalating the confrontation.

In a fiery continuation, Mr. Agyapong warned that if the NPP “jokes,” he would “give them a showdown” because “no one is man enough in the NPP more than him.”

Mr. Agyapong also lashed out at the party’s Bono regional executives, including Abronye, blaming them for the NPP’s poor showing in the Bono Region during the 2024 general elections, where the party lost several parliamentary seats to the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The incident has raised concerns among party faithful, with many worried about the impact of internal divisions on the NPP’s future prospects.
