President John Dramani Mahama has pledged that the newly launched Adwumawura Programme will not suffer the fate of previous projects under the Akufo-Addo administration, which he described as "mere mirages."
At the launch ceremony held on Monday, April 28, 2025, President Mahama hailed the programme as a bold and vital initiative aimed at driving national development.
He made it clear that the Adwumawura Programme would stand apart from past efforts that, despite elaborate announcements, lacked the financial backing necessary to succeed.
“This is an ambitious undertaking. But it’s necessary if we’re to secure a prosperous and resilient future for the youth of Ghana. Let me point out that this programme is not like others that were announced in the recent past, with a lot of fanfare, but proved to be mirages without adequate funding to sustain them,” he said.
The President stressed that this new initiative is fully resourced, with funding already secured through provisions made by the Ministry of Finance in the 2025 national budget.
“Adwumawura is fully funded with adequate allocation provided by the Ministry of Finance in the 2025 budget,” President Mahama assured.
Highlighting its inclusive nature, he described the programme as one that prioritises Ghanaian youth and entrepreneurs, offering opportunities to build businesses from the ground up.
“Many big businesses of today were the start-ups and micro enterprises of yesterday. Adwumawura is designed to be inclusive, youth-led, and Ghanaian-owned. And so, you must be a Ghanaian to be part of Adwumawura,” he explained.
The Adwumawura Programme is expected to serve as a major engine for job creation and entrepreneurship, targeting young Ghanaians and small business owners across the country.
