The former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has mourned the demise of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Mamponghene and occupant of Asanteman’s silver stool.

Daasebre Osei Bonsu II passed away at the age of 86. The Mampong Traditional Council has since informed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, about the death in line with Asante custom.

The Council, together with the Bretuo Dynasty, officially conveyed the news to the Asantehene on Monday, April 28.

In a post on social media on on the same day, the former NPP flagbearer aspirant expressed sadness over the news.

“I am saddened by the news of the passing of Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, Mamponghene, occupant of Asanteman’s silver stool,” he wrote.

He described the late chief as a leader whose contributions to the nation spanned decades of public service and leadership in Asanteman and the National House of Chiefs.

“He was a great advocate for good governance, respect for rule of law, political tolerance and economic empowerment, particularly for the youth,” he added.

According to him, the death of the Mamponghene is a tragic loss not only for Asanteman but for Ghana as a whole.

“I offer my commiserations to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, Nana Agyakoma Difie II, Mamponghemaa, the Asanteman Council, the National House of Chiefs, his family and the good people of Asante Mampong,” he stated.
