Former Flagbearer aspirant and Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has once again reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) with a generous donation of GH¢1 million to support the party’s operations and preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The donation, which was made during a brief but significant event held at the NPP headquarters, drew widespread applause from party executives and supporters. Hon. Agyapong explained that he was out of the country when he heard through the media that the party needed financial assistance, prompting his swift response to contribute.

“I was not in the country when I heard in the news that the party needed financial support,” he said. “This donation is my humble way of showing that I believe in the vision of the party.”

Hon. Agyapong, widely known for his forthrightness and passionate defence of the NPP, emphasized that his contribution is rooted in his deep-seated desire to see the party regain power in 2028. He reiterated that unity, fairness, and justice must be the pillars of the party’s resurgence.

“If NPP will come back to power unless we are united,” Agyapong stated. “Even if you bring Jesus Christ, without unity, we cannot win the election.”

Responding to the donation, the General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Kodua Frimpong, expressed profound appreciation on behalf of the party, praising Agyapong’s long-standing dedication and generosity.

“Kennedy Agyapong's benevolence is well-known, and everyone can attest to it,” Frimpong said. “Anyone mentions his name, and they talk about his kind gestures and benevolence towards them.”

Frimpong added that the GH¢1 million donation would go a long way to support the party’s internal logistics and operational needs. He highlighted the importance of unity as a driving force for the party’s success, echoing Agyapong’s own words.

“Unity is what will prepare us to win the 2028 elections,” he quoted, encouraging members to rally behind whoever emerges as the party’s flagbearer in the next presidential race.

In his address, Hon. Agyapong acknowledged the General Secretary’s call for unity but cautioned that unity cannot be achieved without fairness and transparency in the party’s internal affairs. He pointed to alleged instances of bias and threats within the party, particularly during the endorsement of candidates.

“When you want peace, two things you need to ensure peace and unity are fairness and justice,” Agyapong stressed. “Without fairness and without justice, it will be very difficult to get everybody on board.”

He cited a specific incident in Kumasi, where he claimed that some MPs were allegedly threatened for supporting a particular candidate, describing such developments as detrimental to the party’s cohesion.

“Whatever we do, we cannot get unity if this continues,” he warned. “We must respect each other’s views. Contestants are not enemies—they are members of the same party.”

Hon. Agyapong further urged the leadership of the NPP to stand firm against internal pressures and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants. He cautioned that the party risks alienating its base if perceived injustices persist.

“We must be bold and fair. That is the only way to get everyone on board. Let us show by our actions that we are serious about unity.”
