The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has dismissed widespread social media rumours alleging that Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, was attacked during a recent visit to Bawku.

In a statement released on April 25, 2025, and signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, GAF addressed two circulating videos, describing them as completely misleading.

“GAF wishes to state that the contents of the said videos are false and should be treated with the contempt that they deserve,” the statement read.

According to GAF, the COAS’s operational engagement in Bawku on Wednesday, April 23, went smoothly, with no incidents reported throughout the visit.

The Armed Forces also confirmed that an investigation has been launched to identify and prosecute those responsible for producing and spreading the deceptive content. The statement urged media outlets and content creators to exercise restraint and responsibility in their reporting.

“GAF once again wishes to caution bloggers, content creators and the media at large to be circumspect in their reportage on GAF operations, especially in Bawku, since any deliberate misinformation and disinformation of the populace has the potential to worsen the security situation in the area,” GAF cautioned.
