Support any credible move by the NDC government to arrest any corrupt NPP politicians

Feature Article Support any credible move by the NDC government to arrest any corrupt NPP politicians
TUE, 22 APR 2025

During this second term of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama’s NDC-led administration, the government is resolutely determined to fight official corruption often perpetrated and perpetuated by elected politicians.

Where and how the government starts causing the investigations, arrests, and prosecutions of both the present and past government appointees and politicians should not be a concern provided they are not discriminatively targeted at a particular group.

The days of “you scratch my back, and I scratch your back”, enjoyed by the Ghanaian elected politicians, the cause energising and motivating them to illegally avail themselves of public coffers and properties with impunity, are coming to an end under President John Mahama’s second term administration.

The day of reckoning for the Ghanaian politician to be held accountable, be transparent, serve but not to be served, seems to have come should the president and NDC government indeed be able to prosecute corrupt politicians, be whomever they are.

The writer entreats Ghanaians not to cry foul should the axe first fall on NPP politicians, if only the process will continue, become established, and applied to all future Ghanaian politicians including those officials entrusted with positions to serve the people and the nation.

Let NDC today arrest only the members of NPP; tomorrow, the table will turn, strengthen the hands and balls of the NPP to cause them to boldly arrest any corrupt NDC politician to finally culminate in ending official corruption, the indelibly conspicuous trademark of the Ghanaian politician. This in my estimation will end the usual gimmickries by the government in power, or political parties seeking power, touting their sloganized determination to end official corruptions but doing fuck all.

It is that aspect of the Ghanaian politician’s infatuation with corruption that the country is not moving forward but backwards in terms of socio-economic development. It is that aspect of love of corruption, committed with impunity that the nation’s judicial system has comparatively become a laughingstock, directly encouraging the diehards to commit crimes with impunity. No wonder that criminals could easily become investigative journalists adopting completely non-internationally recognised modus operandi in their investigations to acquire themselves immense wealth.

If this process adopted and or, embarked on, by, President Mahama and his government, will become the proverbial “when you cut off the head of a snake its remains are only a rope”, then I support them 100% for fighting official corruption, the bane of the economic development or emancipation of Ghana must be seen to stop.

Is it not the same official corruption becoming the root cause of the ever spreading illegal and alluvial mining (galamsey) that is wreaking havoc on the nation’s water bodies, fertile and arable lands, etc.?

Until official corruption spearheaded by our very elected “dishonourable” politicians is decapitated as in chopping off the head of a snake to render it harmless, our country Ghana will continue to wallow in economic stagnation with those few politicians getting richer and richer while the masses suffer and live in utter penury.

Bravo to President Mahama and NDC for their honest determination to fight official corruption.

The writer is watching with his eagle eyes and listening with his sharp “blind man’s ears” to better report back the outcome to the public, whether the president’s attempts succeed or fail.

Let us all support the bold attempt initiated to stop or reduce the love of corruption by the Ghanaian politician.

We can only extricate our nation Ghana from the humiliating tag of “shithole country” if only, we can successfully liberate ourselves from the perpetration and perpetuation of infatuation with corruption.

The proud son of Kumawu/Asiampa soil is back and has spoken his honest mind.

Ghana first. Party second!
