Education A/R: Asuonwunu Chief sets up GHC1.3m Fund to build community SHS
MON, 21 APR 2025

The Chief of Asuonwunu in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region, Nana Akyina Kwagyan V, has launched a GHC1.3 million fund to establish a Senior High School (SHS) for the community.

Fulfilling a promise he made in 2024 to collaborate with stakeholders in building a school to train the youth, the chief has now formalised efforts through the creation of the Asuonwunu Community Development Fund. All contributions and support for the project will be channelled through this foundation.

Nana Akyina Kwagyan personally kickstarted the initiative with a seed amount of GHC500,000.

On Saturday, April 19, 2025, he inaugurated a five-member steering committee to oversee the implementation of the project. The committee is chaired by Mr. Kwame Owusu Nuako, a former Director of the Ghana School Feeding Programme.

At the inauguration, three prominent miners in the area—Mr. Eric Frimpong (popularly known as Alhaji), Akwasi Agyenim, and Andrew Isaac Appiah—each donated GHC100,000 to support the school’s construction. In addition, they pledged to supply 15,000 cement blocks to help launch construction activities.

Mr. Nuako and other members of the steering committee also contributed GHC300,000 to the fund.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nuako revealed that the chief had already allocated 25 hectares of land for the school and added that a sod-cutting ceremony would be held soon to officially begin construction.

In his address, Nana Akyina Kwagyan expressed gratitude to all partners and donors for their generosity and pledged his unwavering commitment to seeing the project through.

He appealed to the natives of Asuonwunu, the government, and corporate institutions to support the initiative to ensure the swift completion of the SHS project.
