Hundreds of enthusiastic residents in Tsiame and surrounding communities in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region turned out in large numbers to welcome Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, during a special homecoming visit to his ancestral roots.

The occasion, held to empower women in business and celebrate Afenyo-Markin’s contributions to community development, was marked by excitement and deep appreciation from the crowd, who hailed the MP’s commitment to improving lives through practical support.

In his address to the gathering, Mr. Afenyo-Markin reflected on the significance of the warm reception and the purpose behind his visit.

“My visit to Tsiame is significant not only for the community but also for the country. It highlights the importance of community engagement and the role that prominent individuals can play in promoting development and progress,” he said.

He emphasized that the initiative was aimed at inspiring hope and offering tangible support to women and young people through acts of generosity, with the ultimate goal of enhancing living standards in the area.

Acknowledging speculation surrounding his political intentions, the MP made his motives clear.

“My donations of hairdryers, sewing machines, and others are from my free heart, I am not in any way preparing myself to be an independent candidate or whatsoever for Keta constituency, it will never happen, I just deem it fit to extend a helping hand to my own people in my own town,” he stated.

The event saw the presentation of over 30 hairdryers, sewing machines, and other tools to support women in starting or expanding their trades.

Keta MP, Kwame Dzudzorli Gakpe, who was present at the ceremony, expressed gratitude for the support and urged other parliamentarians to follow Afenyo-Markin’s example.

He encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the equipment provided, noting that such interventions could significantly boost local apprenticeship and self-employment initiatives.

Mr. Bernard Suka, former Assembly Member for Tsiame and Deputy NPP Constituency Secretary for Keta, praised Afenyo-Markin’s unwavering commitment to service, describing his contributions as both impactful and inspirational.

He said the Minority Leader’s legacy in Tsiame has made him a role model, especially for the youth.

“The dedication of the Minority Leader to public service and the commitment to making a positive impact on his community had earned him widespread recognition and admiration in the whole region and beyond,” Suka said.

He added that the homecoming was more than a ceremonial visit—it was a celebration of achievement, compassion, and the lasting influence of a native son whose efforts continue to uplift his people.

Some of the women who benefited from the donations expressed their joy and promised to use the equipment to build sustainable livelihoods for themselves and their families.
