NPP You were quick to crack whip on Adwoa Safo yet treating Owusu Bempah with kid gloves — NPP Chairman Dollar slams party leaders

Eric Nartey Yeboah, the Second Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Greater Accra Region, has strongly criticised the party’s national leadership for failing to take disciplinary action against Deputy National Communications Officer, Ernest Owusu Bempah Bonsu.

Yeboah, popularly known as Chairman Dollar, condemned what he sees as the party’s reluctance to address what he describes as unacceptable behaviour by Owusu Bempah. He said the party’s silence sends the wrong signal and undermines the principles of fairness and discipline.

"The party was quick to crack the whip on former Dome-Kwabenya MP Adwoa Safo, yet it is dragging its feet on Owusu Bempah. Who is he to be treated as an exception?" Mr. Yeboah fumed.

He went on to question the Deputy Communications Officer's roots in the party, implying that Owusu Bempah has not demonstrated the same level of loyalty or long-standing commitment as others who have been disciplined.

He argued that known loyalists of the party have faced suspensions for similar offences, and that it would be unfair to apply different standards in this case. Chairman Dollar hinted at Owusu Bempah’s past political associations, suggesting his loyalty to the NPP may not be as firm as portrayed.

"Some of us know his roots in the National Democratic Congress and his dealings with former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings," he said, adding, "should a person of such calibre be treated with exception when found culpable?"

Speaking to reporters after the party’s leadership received Prof. Mike Oquaye’s post-election review report at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Yeboah pressed further, questioning the silence from leadership amid widespread concern over Owusu Bempah’s recent comments about Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia.

“If Bempah’s comments were in the interest of the party, why are respected leaders like Nana Akomea and others speaking out against him?” he asked.

Yeboah concluded with a call for consistency and integrity in the party’s internal disciplinary processes, stressing that with the NPP in a period of reflection and restructuring following the 2024 elections, enforcing discipline fairly across the board is more important than ever.
