As a proud and dedicated servant of the great National Democratic Congress (NDC), I pen this heartfelt piece not with joy but with immense concern and a strong sense of duty to the truth. What is currently happening within the Bongo Constituency Secretariat of our party is nothing short of a political crime scene — a betrayal of the very values we claim to uphold.
The recent wave of government appointments in our constituency has not only raised eyebrows but broken the hearts of many who have faithfully served our party at the grassroots. The speed and secrecy with which these appointments were made — shockingly, even before the nomination of a District Chief Executive (DCE) — is both irregular and unacceptable.
This reversal of a long-respected process reeks of favoritism and calculated manipulation. It sets a dangerous precedent that could shatter the very fabric of unity we’ve worked so hard to maintain.
What makes this situation more painful is the reality that a large chunk of these appointments have been handed to current and former constituency executives — individuals already holding powerful positions. Among them are:
1. Charles Apuusah (Constituency Treasurer)
2. Edward Asekere (Communication Officer)
3. Esther Akabzaa (Women Organizer)
4. Alfred Awuni (Youth Organizer)
5. Maclean Ayamga (Constituency Elections Director)
6. Thomas Atongo (Former Constituency Organizer)
7. Abariga (Former Constituency Youth Organizer)
...and several others who are already influential within party structures.
By continuously recycling the same names and positions, we are ignoring the tireless efforts of those at the grassroots — including those who boldly contested and lost the assembly elections. These comrades braved the odds, sacrificed resources, time, and energy for the NDC, yet they’ve been callously sidelined.
To worsen matters, much effort was not made to consider professional background, caliber, and electoral area balance. Are appointments now rewards for loyalty to power blocs instead of service to party ideals?
Where Is the Loyalty to the Grassroots?
The foundation of the NDC is the grassroots. It is these tireless men and women who carry the party on their backs, mobilize communities, and defend our ideals in the trenches. When their dedication is met with neglect, what message are we sending? That loyalty is no longer valued? That service only matters when you hold a title?
To the Member of Parliament, the Chairman, and all those who orchestrated this injustice: remember that no constituency executive gets elected without the support of the very grassroots you have now abandoned.
Even more worrying is the lack of transparency. As one of the elected 8 other (executive member) of the Bongo Constituency, I was never consulted. And I know I am not alone. Many key stakeholders were ignored in a process that should have been inclusive and transparent.
If we do not respect our internal structures, how can we expect the larger electorate to respect our leadership?
I cannot and will not be part of this. I distance myself from this shameful, elitist drama. I stand firmly with the grassroots. I speak for those who may not hold positions but hold the party’s future in their hands. I speak for the silenced, the overlooked, the forgotten.
Let this article serve as both a protest and a call to action. We must restore fairness, equity, and respect within our ranks. Let us not betray the values of the NDC for personal gain. Let us rebuild trust, not erode it. Let us empower the many, not enrich the few.
The NDC is bigger than individuals. It is a movement — a family. And if we are to move forward as one, we must ensure that every member, regardless of the title or rank, is heard, valued, and included.
Let this be a wake-up call. Let’s rise above self-interest and build a party that truly represents all its members — not just a privileged few.
