The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okaikwei Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah, has reflected on his victory in the 2024 parliamentary elections, saying the opposition underestimated him.

According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed he was a weak candidate and brought in Abdulai Abu Baba Abubakar Sadiq, whom he described as a show-off, to unseat him.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based GHOne TV on Monday, April 15, Mr. Boamah said his hard work and commitment to the constituency earned him the victory.

“It was quite stiff compared to other elections held in the area. Let me be honest with you — the NDC thought maybe I was a pushover,” he stated.

“I’m not at all. I’ve won elections in the constituency on three occasions. They thought I had become vulnerable, so they brought a candidate who could show off a bit and all that,” the MP added.

He explained that his campaign was based on his track record, which resonated with the people.

“I’ve lived with the constituents, and I’ve shown them my credibility, my work attitude, and what I’ve delivered over the years. So I ran a campaign based on my record. Theirs was based on something else I cannot speak for,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Okaikwei Central constituency was one of the areas where election results were re-collated following a High Court order, which overturned the initial outcome that had declared the NDC’s Baba Sadiq as winner.
