Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has cautioned members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) against misconduct, saying being a party member does not place anyone above the law.
He warned that any supporter found disturbing the peace over the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) will be dealt with according to the law.
“I have placed the security agencies on red alert and cautioned all party members not to misbehave or hide behind party colours. Crime knows no party colour. If you break the law, you will be arrested and prosecuted,” he said.
Dr. Amoakohene revealed that intelligence picked up suggests some individuals plan to mobilise and cause chaos over the expected MMDCE nominations, believing the party will protect them.
“Some people want to cry more than the bereaved, disguising themselves in party paraphernalia and going out to cause trouble. But we won’t tolerate that,” he warned.
He further advised NDC supporters to be calm and accept whoever President John Dramani Mahama appoints as MMDCE.
“You cannot take the law into your own hands and expect protection or cover from us as leaders. Any riot or disturbance reflects directly and negatively on the President,” Dr. Amoakohene said.
“The President will make the appointments, and we will work with whoever he appoints. No one will be allowed to force our hands to choose someone else,” he added.
This comes amid growing concerns from some members in the region that active loyalists are being sidelined in favour of new faces.
