GoldBod will ensure Ghanaians benefit from the fruit of their labour — Dr Rashid Tanko

Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), Dr. Rashid Tanko, has praised the Ghana Gold Board.

The NDC Deputy Director of Elections asserted that the statutory body will help ensure Ghanaians benefit fully from the country’s gold resources.

According to him, the Board’s role in regulating gold mining will sanitize the industry and deliver more value to citizens.

“They [Ghana Gold Board] are doing a fantastic job for Ghana. What we are doing now is to regulate the gold business so that Ghanaians will benefit from the fruit of their labour,” he said.

“The gold is meant for the good people of Ghana. Let’s have a regulatory body that can deal with it and make sure we sanitize the gold business in Ghana so it doesn’t become so erratic,” he added.

Dr. Tanko made the remarks during an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV on Tuesday, April 15.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has cautioned that, with immediate effect, only itself and its licensed agents are permitted to trade or export gold in the country.

This new directive follows the passage of the Ghana Gold Board Act (Act 1140), 2025, which came into force after parliamentary approval on March 29 and presidential assent on April 2.

According to a press statement issued by the statutory body on April 14, all previous licenses issued by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) or the Minister responsible for Mines—except those granted to large-scale mining companies—are no longer valid under the new regime.
