The National Treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Charles Dwamena, popularly known as Dr. China, is advocating for a broader and more inclusive electoral college within the party.
According to him, the current system needs to be expanded to give voting rights to all card-bearing members, former executives, patrons, and party financiers.
"It should not be only delegates," he emphasized, arguing that including all stakeholders in internal elections would promote inclusivity and strengthen the party's grassroots support.
Speaking on Oman FM, Dr. Dwamena acknowledged that logistical limitations may prevent immediate implementation, but suggested a phased rollout of the proposed open electoral college system.
He expressed disappointment that the NPP, as a leading political force, has not yet embraced this model.
"This is non-negotiable. It is long overdue," he stressed.
Dr. Dwamena believes that expanding participation in internal elections will ultimately boost the party's electoral prospects.
"Doing this will help the party expand its base in terms of electoral fortunes," he added.
