Ntim Fordjour’s Reckless Cocaine Allegations: A Stain on Our Nation That Must Not Go Unpunished

Ghana stands at a dangerous crossroads—not because of external threats, but because of the reckless conduct of a man who ought to know better. Hon. Ntim Fordjour, a Member of Parliament and former Deputy Minister of Education, has crossed every conceivable line of responsibility, decency, and patriotism in his recent spate of baseless allegations against the current NDC administration.

At a press conference, he alleged—without a shred of credible evidence—that the government is neck-deep in cocaine trafficking and money laundering, all because two aircraft had remained at the Kotoka International Airport. These are not light claims. These are heavy, reputation-destroying accusations that, if true, could upend any government and erode global confidence in our institutions. But that is precisely why such claims must be treated with care, with evidence, and with a sense of national duty—not flung into the public like gossip in a drinking bar.

The tragedy is not just in the lie, but in his persistence even after being confronted with the truth. The government, in a commendable display of transparency, provided video footage of the aircraft being inspected by National Security operatives. The Minister of State in charge of Government Communications also offered a detailed public explanation. These weren’t hurried attempts at cover-up—they were clear and open demonstrations that the state has nothing to hide.

But instead of welcoming this transparency, Ntim Fordjour dug in his heels, dismissing the government’s explanations solely because they weren’t “directly from the security agencies.” Is this not the very definition of bad faith? When a man is committed to a lie, even the truth becomes unacceptable. Hon. Fordjour has shown that this isn’t about concern for Ghana—it’s about a personal and political agenda: sabotage through slander, propaganda dressed as patriotism.

Let us be blunt: this conduct is a clear threat to Ghana’s national security, diplomatic credibility, and international standing. No responsible country should tolerate such reckless abandon from a sitting Member of Parliament. He is weaponizing his parliamentary immunity to wage a campaign of deceit. And unless decisive action is taken, he will embolden others to do the same.

Can we also imagine, just for a moment, what Ntim Fordjour’s reaction would be if someone publicly accused him of being a paedophile or homosexual just because he is often seen in the company of young boys? Without proof. Without investigation. Just assumptions and malice. Would he accept it? Would he not demand justice? Would he not cry foul? Then why does he feel entitled to smear others and the government with such deadly falsehoods?

It is time Parliament and the government rise to the occasion. Enough of the silence. Enough of the tiptoeing. Hon. Ntim Fordjour must be formally investigated. If he has evidence, let him tender it before a competent national body. If he does not—and so far, he clearly does not—then he must be punished, in accordance with the laws of the land, for peddling dangerous falsehoods.

He must not be allowed to use Parliament as a shelter for propaganda. His impunity must end. An example must be made, not out of vengeance, but to preserve the integrity of Ghana’s democratic institutions.

Ghana cannot afford to be dragged through the mud by self-serving individuals who mistake their microphones for truth and their privileges for impunity. As a nation, we deserve better. And it is our responsibility to demand it.
