The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) recently paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, to congratulate him and discuss areas where the industry requires support for comprehensive development.

The delegation was led by the AGI President, Dr. Humphrey Kwesi Ayim Darke, and Mr. Seth Twum-Akwaboah, the CEO of AGI. During the visit, Dr. Ayim Darke commended the Minister for addressing the concerns raised by industry leaders. He acknowledged that the government's initiatives would contribute to solving issues such as job creation and import substitution.

The Minister expressed his interest in developing fiscal policies that would protect local industries, enabling them to source raw materials domestically. He announced plans to implement a policy requiring state agencies to procure essential goods exclusively from local producers.

The issue of smuggling was also addressed, with Mr. Seth Twum-Akwaboah highlighting its negative impact on local manufacturers and businesses.

Dr. Ato Forson assured AGI that the government has identified key smuggling routes and is taking steps to address the challenges posed by smuggled goods. He stated that measures would soon be deployed to combat smuggling and unfair trade practices.

The meeting concluded with a proposal for a working session between industry stakeholders and the ministry. The aim is to explore how local businesses and manufacturers can participate in the government's 24-hour economy program, fostering industrial production and promoting economic growth in the nation.
