The "Agyapadie" Document and the Fall of Akufo-Addo’s Leadership: A Call for Accountability

Feature Article The Agyapadie Document and the Fall of Akufo-Addo’s Leadership: A Call for Accountability
FRI, 04 APR 2025

In 2020, a controversial and allegedly restricted book titled Agyapadie surfaced, sending shockwaves across Ghana. Authored by individuals linked to the Akyem ethnic group, the document laid bare a calculated plan to monopolize Ghana’s resources, dominate key sectors, and reshape the nation’s destiny in favor of a select few.

The foreword, believed to be written by Ken Ofori-Atta, outlined a blueprint for economic capture, political manipulation, and media control. This revelation mirrored the scandals and failures of former President Akufo-Addo’s administration.

A Document That Exposed the Truth
The Agyapadie leak was more than just a breach of secrecy; it was a mirror held up to the Akufo-Addo government. The document’s contents align entirely with real-world events: the botched PDS and Agyapa Royalties deals involving names of Gabby Otchere Darko and Ken Ofori-Atta, the collapse of domestic banks, the plundering of the galamsey sector, and the systematic weakening of state-owned enterprises.

When confronted, Akufo-Addo dismissed the leaked book as a fabricated document and an attempt to incite hatred against his government and the Akyem elites. Yet, the damage was done. The document confirmed what many Ghanaians already suspected, a leadership more invested in personal and ethnic gains than national progress.

The Four Pillars of Manipulation
The Agyapadie document focused on four key areas:

  1. Economic and Financial Control: A plan to hand over banking, insurance, mining, oil, gas, and telecommunications to a privileged few. The collapse of banks and the galamsey crisis were not coincidences but part of a grand scheme (see details from page 3 onward).
  2. Political Domination: A strategy to corrupt smaller parties, collude with the Electoral Commission, and sideline the NDC and other opposition figures (see details from page 21 onward).
  3. Religion and Chieftaincy: Targeting influential chiefs and pastors to consolidate power (see details from page 23 onward).
  4. Media Manipulation: Silencing critical voices and controlling narratives to suppress dissent (see details from page 25 onward).

The Reckoning
Ghanaians, awakened by these revelations, delivered a decisive verdict on December 7, 2024. The ousting of Akufo-Addo and the NPP was not just a rejection of poor governance, but a repudiation of the greed and ethnic favoritism embedded in the Agyapadie agenda. Had the electorate chosen Dr. Bawumia, the document’s full implementation would have plunged Ghana deeper into inequality and exploitation.

A New Dawn Under Mahama and Opoku-Agyemang

The Mahama-Opoku-Agyemang administration now faces the monumental task of resetting Ghana’s course. This begins with unearthing the wrongs of the past eight years, holding culprits accountable, recovering looted resources, and restoring dignity to our nation.

The Agyapadie leak, though diabolical in origin, served as a divine warning. Ghanaians heeded it, and now, the work of rebuilding has begun under President John Dramani Mahama and his able ‘Pasma Team’ in government now.

Call to Action
The fight for transparency and justice is far from over. We must demand:

  • A full investigation into the Agyapadie document and its architects, if possible.
  • Prosecution of all who orchestrated Ghana’s economic decline.
  • Vigilance to ensure no such plan ever threatens our democracy again.

Ghana’s resources belong to all its people, not a select few. The power of the thumbs has spoken; let the power of accountability follow.
