Letter Shai-Osudoku DCE selection: An open letter to the NDC
WED, 02 APR 2025

I am writing this as a true daughter of the Osudoku Traditional Area in the Greater Accra Region and in my position as an opinion leader, who carries with it the deep-seated responsibility of representing the voices and aspirations of our people. It is with a heavy heart and a sense of urgency that I address the NDC MMDC Vetting committee regarding the selection of the District Chief Executive (DCE) for our area.

For the past nine years, our constituency has endured the leadership of a Member of Parliament who, despite being part of our political party, lacks the necessary parental, cultural, and traditional roots to our community. This disconnect has not only led to a gross disrespect towards the chief and the people but has also alienated our community from the decision-making processes that directly affect our lives.

The quietude of our people in the face of this situation is not a sign of acceptance, but rather a reflection of our commitment to the NDC and our desire to avoid embarrassing the party. However, it is crucial to understand that our patience is not infinite, and the imposition of a non-indigene as DCE would further exacerbate the existing rift between our community and the party.

I have come across circulating names as potential candidates for the DCE position, and I implore the committee to exercise utmost caution. The selection of an individual who does not understand or respect our cultural heritage will not only alienate our members but also sow seeds of discontent among the people of Osudoku. We have not been consulted in this process, and it feels deeply insulting to witness attempts by our MP to impose his brother-in-law—who is also not a native of Shai-Osudoku—on our district.

I urge the committee to prioritize the voices of the chiefs and the people in this critical decision. Our community deserves a DCE who understands our needs, respects our traditions, and will advocate for our interests. The NDC must stand with the people of Osudoku to foster unity and ensure that our voices are heard.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope that you will consider our concerns seriously and act in the best interest of our community.
