OSP has used state money for 8 years yet no conviction — Baffour-Awuah

Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour-Awuah, has raised concerns about the performance of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

According to the MP, the OSP has failed to secure a single conviction in eight years despite utilizing state resources and currently has only three criminal cases pending.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the NPP MP criticized the anti-graft agency’s priorities, suggesting it should focus on cases that significantly impact the public purse, particularly those involving financial mismanagement.

“It has been eight years since its establishment, and almost no single conviction has been secured by that office, Mr. Speaker. According to its own documents submitted to the committee, the agency now has only three criminal cases after eight years.

“Mr. Speaker, when you examine the cases it is handling, you realize there seems to be some aberration in its primary focus. Why am I saying this? Mr. Speaker, when we talk about an institution meant to protect the public purse, its efforts should reflect that.

“But when we go through its records, we realize that, Mr. Speaker, it is completely off track. What then is it doing chasing school lands? Mr. Speaker, school lands and other unrelated matters,” he said.
