Former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Agyapong, has publicly addressed his loss in a defamation case against investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

The former New Patriotic Party flagbearer contended that the experience will only make him a better person.

Speaking to his supporters upon his return from the United States, where the case was heard, the vocal politician noted that those who decide to speak the truth and fight for the voiceless in society often endure such ordeals.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you for the wonderful welcome you have given to me and my wife. I thank you very much. This will inspire me to continue doing what I do. Your support indicates that you appreciate my efforts.

“So I will say that we should all stay calm. Nobody should worry because anyone who decides to speak the truth and fight for the voiceless goes through such things. And through this, I become a better person,” he stated.

His comments come after the Essex County Superior Court in the United States awarded Anas Aremeyaw Anas $18 million in damages in a defamation lawsuit against him.

The case stems from remarks made by Agyapong during a 2021 interview, which Anas argued severely harmed his reputation and endangered his life.

The interview, conducted on the Daddy Fred Show, a program hosted by Ghanaian-American Frederick Asamoah, aired on September 7, 2021.

During the broadcast, Agyapong made sweeping and inflammatory statements, accusing Anas of being a “criminal” and a “thief.”

He further alleged that Anas was involved in the murder of fellow journalist Ahmed Suale and the deaths of Chinese nationals in Ghana.

According to Anas, these unsubstantiated claims not only damaged his professional reputation but also placed him in physical danger, given his history of undercover investigations.
