President John Dramani Mahama has asked for the formation of a fast-track court to speed up the prosecution of corruption-related cases in Ghana.

Speaking during a meeting with some members of the judiciary on Wednesday, March 26, President Mahama stated that corruption continues to drain the nation's resources, with reports of billions of cedis being looted each year.

“You hear 12 billion cedis misappropriated, 15 billion cedis misappropriated, and how we deal with these cases is very difficult,” he stated.

He stressed that, while constitutional processes such as Parliament's Public Accounts Committee play an important role in resolving financial irregularities, a dedicated court system is required to achieve Swift justice.

“After that has happened, we must have a fast-track court where we’re able to deal with this so that we deter people from just misusing government funds like that,” President Mahama said.

This comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding the arrest of the immediate past Director-General of the National Signal Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng.

At a press briefing in Accra on Monday, March 24, Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine detailed how the couple allegedly diverted $7 million in public funds through fraudulent transactions.

According to him, the couple used a private company, BNC Communications Bureau, to misappropriate funds meant for a cyber defense system contract between the Government of Ghana and Israeli firm ISC Holdings.

He revealed that while serving as NSB Director-General, Mr. Adu-Boahene transferred ₵49 million—equivalent to $7 million at the time—from a National Security account to a company he co-owns with his wife.
