Your declaration of Ghana as a crime scene is reckless — Ahiagbah

The National Communications Director of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has accused President John Dramani Mahama of being reckless in his fight against corruption.

According to him, declaring the country a crime scene is irresponsible, especially when the Attorney General is conducting trials of “suspects” in a manner that contradicts the Constitution.

In a social media post on Thursday, March 27, Mr. Ahiagbah argued that Ghanaians are not merely interested in evidence of alleged corruption but in actual convictions.

“The John Dramani Mahama administration is reckless in declaring Ghana a crime scene and further dramatizing it through the Attorney-General’s media trial of ‘suspects’ to push that narrative, contrary to the Constitution.

“We, the public, are not interested in evidence of alleged corruption but in convictions.”

The NPP spokesperson urged the Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, to take his evidence to court rather than using the media to tarnish the country’s image.

“Dr. Dominic Ayine should proceed to court if he has evidence against anyone instead of using media stunts to sully Ghana’s good name,” part of his post read.

“We support fighting corruption according to the law, not according to NDC politics. Mr. President, this is a democracy, and your government must always respect the civil and human rights of all citizens,” he added.

His remarks follow a media engagement by Dr. Ayine, during which he updated the public on the government’s anti-corruption efforts, including the case of former National Signals Bureau Director-General Kwaku Adu-Boahene.

At the press briefing, Dr. Ayine defended President Mahama’s assertion that corruption has turned Ghana into a crime scene.
