What we are experiencing now is not dumsor, we have enough supply — NPP’s Kojo Poku

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Kojo Poku has rejected claims that Ghana is experiencing dumsor under the current Mahama administration, attributing the recent power outages to challenges within the energy sector rather than a shortfall in electricity supply.

According to him, the situation differs from the power crisis under the previous Mahama administration, where demand exceeded supply. He insists that Ghana currently has sufficient power generation capacity.

"I will not conclude that we have dumsor per my understanding of what dumsor is. I know dumsor to be when we don’t have enough supply to meet demand. However, as a country, we have enough supply, so I will not describe the power cuts as dumsor," he stated.

Explaining further, he pointed to infrastructure projects as a contributing factor to the disruptions, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

"In the Ashanti Region, they were building a bulk supply point, but they did not communicate it very well to the people there for them to understand, hence the challenge," he told Vim Lady on Accra-based Okay FM.

Despite his assertions, power outages have persisted across several parts of the country since the beginning of the year, disrupting businesses and daily life. Many Ghanaians are now calling on the Energy Minister to introduce a load-shedding timetable to help individuals and businesses plan effectively.
