Samuel Atta Akyea, lawyer for the immediate past National Signal Bureau (NSB) Director-General, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, and his wife, Angela Adjei-Boateng, has criticized Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dr. Dominic Ayine, accusing him of undermining justice in the handling of allegations against his clients.
Speaking on Accra-based JoyNews on Tuesday, March 25, the former Abuakwa South lawmaker expressed shock at Dr. Ayine’s suggestion of a plea bargain while investigations were still ongoing.
According to Atta Akyea, the Attorney General is acting as both a court of law and a prosecutor to suit his own convenience.
“The whole world is being poisoned against them, as if they are criminals. The Attorney General, in a clear case of professional misconduct, told the public they should even consider plea bargaining.
“The Attorney General is now both the court of law and the prosecutor at the same time. How can you say you haven’t even taken statements from the suspects, yet you are talking about plea bargaining?” he questioned.
“This is a travesty of justice, and Ghanaians should not celebrate it because today, it is Mr. Adu-Boahene and his wife. Tomorrow, it could be anyone. A constitutional change of government does not nullify the laws of the country,” he added.
Kwabena Adu-Boahene and his wife Angela Adjei-Boateng are currently in the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) over allegations of misappropriating GHC39 million of state funds.
