Our PRO Alex King Nartey will be given appropriate sanction — GNFS assures Ashanti Regional Minister

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has assured the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Peter Amokohene, that disciplinary action will be taken against its Public Relations Officer (PRO), ADOI Alex King Nartey, over comments he made regarding the Minister’s conduct.

Nartey had criticized the Minister for shouting at fire officers over an empty fire tender during a fire outbreak at the Adum Central Business District in Kumasi on March 21.

He described the Minister’s behavior as self-aggrandizement, stating that it could demotivate hardworking firefighters.

In a statement dated March 24 and signed by Acting Chief Fire Officer Daniella Ntow-Sapong, the GNFS apologized to the Minister and assured him that the matter would be addressed.

“I refer to the uncomplimentary comments and remarks by a member of the Public Relations Team of the Service in the person of ADOI Alex King Nartey on the recent fire outbreak at Adum in the Kumasi Metropolis.

“On behalf of myself and the entire Ghana National Fire Service, we unreservedly extend our profound and sincerest regret for any unfortunate comment made against your good self and reputable office as the Regional Minister and Chair of REGSEC (Ashanti Region),” the statement read in part.

It further stated, “This affirms my earlier discussion with you on this subject, and be assured that appropriate disciplinary measures shall be taken against the officer to avert any future occurrence of this unfortunate incident.”
