Ghana races to meet next IMF review as govt outlines economic fixes

The Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has assured that government is taking decisive steps to meet its next International Monetary Fund (IMF) review in April by addressing structural benchmarks missed under the previous administration.

He asserts that corrective measures are already underway to strengthen the country's economic performance and sustain its recovery efforts.

Dr. Forson made these remarks during a meeting with the German Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Daniel Krull, where discussions focused on Ghana's economic progress, energy sector reforms, and bilateral cooperation.

“Regarding the IMF programme, we are committed to addressing the structural benchmarks missed under the previous administration, assuring that corrective measures are already in progress and will soon be visible”, the Minister said.

In the context of Ghana’s ongoing debt restructuring, Dr. Forson highlighted the substantial progress the country has made, with a primary focus now on finalizing bilateral agreements with external creditors.

He called for Germany's assistance in accelerating this process, stressing that the timely completion of these agreements is vital to Ghana’s economic recovery.

Dr. Forson also conveyed Germany's willingness to move forward with the signing of the necessary agreements to bolster Ghana’s financial stability.

Ghana's partnership with the IMF is an integral part of the nation's broader strategy to restore macroeconomic stability and pave the way for long-term growth.

The government remains optimistic that continued reforms, coupled with international backing, will steer the country toward a more resilient economic future.

Ambassador Krull praised the Ghanaian government's efforts, describing the discussions as productive and valuable.

Mr. Forson should be careful about the way he is trying hardest to paint the previous administration black at every front: running down on the efforts and the successes chopped by the administration and behaving as the all-knowing and holiest. Time will catch up on you soonest. A word to the wise, is enough.
