The Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) has instructed the management of Kumasi City Market (Kejetia) to step aside following mounting petitions from traders and stakeholders regarding mismanagement.
In a statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the ARCC announced the formation of an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee market operations while investigations are conducted into allegations against the previous management.
The decision follows multiple meetings between the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), market management, and the Regional Minister, during which pressing concerns—including sanitation issues and unpaid utility bills—were raised.
The newly formed IMC will be led by Prince Ofori Atta as Chairman, with Amoah Prince Nyarko as Operations Manager and Nana Prempeh Amankwaa overseeing security.
Traders have long voiced frustrations over poor management practices, which they claim have negatively affected their businesses. The ARCC’s intervention is expected to restore order and transparency in the market’s administration.
The previous management has been directed to provide all necessary documents to ensure a smooth transition and aid in the ongoing investigations.
