President John Dramani Mahama has assured teacher and nursing trainees that their allowances will now be disbursed through the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD), ensuring regular and timely payments.
Speaking at a durbar at Jubilee Park in Tamale during his “Thank You Tour” of the Northern Region, President Mahama emphasized that the new arrangement would eliminate the delays that had plagued the payment system.
With this initiative, trainees can expect their allowances to be processed just like the salaries of government workers, providing them with financial stability throughout their training.
Earlier in the day, President Mahama paid a courtesy call on Ya-Na Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon, at the Gbewaa Palace to express his appreciation for the region’s overwhelming support in the recent Presidential Elections.
Outlining key plans in the 2025 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, he revealed that resources had been allocated to provide free sanitary pads for girls in schools, a move aimed at ensuring they do not miss classes during their menstrual periods.
He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to completing the long-delayed Eastern Corridor Road, promising significant improvements in transportation and economic activities in the region.
Expressing gratitude to the people of the Northern Region for their strong support of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the elections, he assured them of continued development projects to uplift the region.
Meanwhile, Northern Regional Minister, Mr. Ali Adolf John, appealed to President Mahama to consider establishing a military barracks in Yendi to help address recurring conflicts along the Eastern Corridor, ensuring lasting peace and security in the area.
