President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his government’s commitment to tackling the water shortages affecting Yendi, Tamale, and other parts of the Northern Region.
He assured the Ya-Na Abukari II, Overlord of Dagbon, that addressing the water crisis in Yendi and its surrounding communities would be a top priority.
During a courtesy visit to the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi as part of his post-election “Thank You Tour,” President Mahama pledged to resolve Tamale’s water challenges before the end of his four-year term. He further outlined plans for sustainable water projects to ensure long-term relief for other affected communities in the region.
His arrival at the palace was met with loud cheers from residents who had gathered in large numbers to welcome him. Addressing the enthusiastic crowd, the President emphasized his government’s dedication to job creation and skills development initiatives for the youth.
Outlining his broader development agenda for the region, he highlighted plans to improve electricity supply, complete the Eastern Corridor Road to enhance transportation between northern and southern Ghana, and implement afforestation projects to combat deforestation and promote environmental sustainability.
Expressing gratitude to the Ya-Na and the people of Yendi for their unwavering support during his campaign, President Mahama appealed for their continued cooperation to achieve meaningful progress.
In response, the Ya-Na, speaking through an elder, reiterated the urgent need for potable water in Yendi and its surrounding areas, emphasizing the severe impact of the crisis on daily life. He urged the President to prioritize resolving the water shortage and to focus on creating jobs to support the region’s unemployed youth.
