Unlike Empires Superpowers like the USA, Russia, and China own no overseas territory that is not a direct or immediate neighbor (China: Tibet, Nepal, or Mongolia; Russia: Crimea, part of the Ukraine?). Superpowers are regional strong forces with a global impact. In foreign territories, they demonstrate their political and economic strength to the rest of the world, especially their competitors.
A sign of true greatness is the level of humanity demonstrated by actions, not words. Superpowers intend to showcase their superiority in all aspects of life, especially in the area of moral values.
The USA during the 19th century accepted 2, 7 Mio. Irish (great famine) and the same number of Germans being not yet a superpower. During the period of WWI and WWII, the USA had strict rules to welcome migrants from war-torn European countries or Jews in danger of being killed in German concentration camps. At that time already a superpower.
During the wars in Vietnam, Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq, Lybia, and Syria, the Genocide in Rwanda, the war in Sudan or Somalia, and Ukraine, etc, neither the USA nor Russia nor China accepted significant numbers of war refugees. This was left to the neighboring countries and mainly Europe (1, 5 Mio. refugees in 2015 in Germany and approx. 800.000 Ukrainian war refugees in Germany since 2022; many more across Europe). The three superpowers did not financially support Europe to cope with the enormous numbers of refugees from the wars they partially had triggered in the first place nor supported Europe or Africa politically.
It is significant for Empires and Superpowers in history when their political plans do not work out as planned others standing below them must pick up the bits and pieces of human tragedy left behind. Mankind must address the question of whether to follow Superpowers or moral heroes.
