The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has assured that any excesses identified in the ongoing raids on the homes of former government appointees will be addressed and punished accordingly.
Speaking to the media in Accra on Friday, March 21, the Asawase Member of Parliament emphasized the need for professionalism and respect in the exercise.
He stressed that individuals must be treated as innocent until proven guilty.
“We keep reminding the security personnel that they should always have it at the back of their minds that until someone is proven guilty, the person is innocent. So we must approach this exercise with a human face,” he stated.
Mr. Mubarak also reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that those who commit crimes are brought to justice while cautioning against unnecessary aggression.
“We will make sure that anybody who is committing a crime is brought to book, but we must do so in a manner that does not show disrespect to individuals,” he said.
“We will assess the magnitude of the excesses and determine the appropriate action. I have requested a report, and once we review it, we will fine-tune the approach to ensure that these issues are corrected,” he said.
The statement follows the recent raid at the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison during which Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin claimed some items were stolen by the team.
