The former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu Boahene, has allegedly been arrested by officials from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) upon his arrival in Ghana, according to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
The reported arrest took place on Thursday, March 20, 2025, shortly after Adu Boahene landed at Kotoka International Airport from London Heathrow on a British Airways flight at approximately 8:30 PM.
Afenyo-Markin, who disclosed the incident in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, March 21, 2025, condemned the arrest, describing it as politically motivated and a threat to justice and fairness in the country.
How the Arrest Unfolded
According to Afenyo-Markin, Adu Boahene went through immigration clearance and was waiting in the CIP lounge for his baggage when an immigration officer approached him. The officer informed him that there was an issue with his name that required clarification at the main immigration office in Terminal 3 Departures. He was also told that he needed to speak with the Immigration Boss.
Without resistance, Adu Boahene followed the officer to the immigration office. After about 10 minutes, he was informed that his name was on EOCO’s stop list and that he was officially wanted.
EOCO’s Actions and Escort
EOCO Deputy Director Raymond Archer, who was personally present, led the arrest alongside his team. Adu Boahene was handcuffed in the departures area and escorted through the airport by about six officers.
He was placed in a white Nissan Navara pickup (GN 8850-22), which was accompanied by another Navara pickup and a white Toyota Corolla, both escorted by fully armed men.
At approximately 9:47 PM, Adu Boahene was driven away to an undisclosed location.
