Former Dome Kwabenya MP aspirant, Mike Oquaye Jnr, has dismissed allegations made by Sarah Adwoa Safo that he disrespected her father, Apostle Kwadwo Safo, during his campaign.

In a statement addressing the claims, Oquaye Jnr categorically denied ever insulting anyone’s father, stressing that his upbringing and personal background would never allow such behavior.

“I have and will never insult anyone’s father. My paternal grandfather is a farmer; I am myself a part-time farmer. That is not how I was brought up,” he asserted.

Adwoa Safo had previously accused him of making disparaging remarks about her father, alleging that he attempted to highlight their different family backgrounds—his father being a professor while hers was a farmer—to influence voters. Speaking on Movement TV, she cautioned that such remarks would not sit well with members of her father’s church.

However, Oquaye Jnr rejected these claims, maintaining that he never used such campaign tactics. He also refuted accusations that he had ever snubbed the former President or Chief of Staff, insisting that he has always conducted himself with respect.

“I am a very private and respectful person. I will never snub the then President, Chief of Staff, or any elderly person who calls me to see them. That is the trait of disrespect, and I am not like that,” he stated.

Touching on efforts to foster post-election unity, Oquaye Jnr disclosed that he had reached out to his primary opponents after securing victory. While one, Madam Sheela, responded positively, the other refused to engage despite multiple attempts.

“I tried on three occasions to reach out to my opponent after I won the primaries. Madam Sheela responded, and we chat till today. I was rebuffed by the other person and her special assistant Nana Dubin told me after three weeks of trying that she did not want to speak to me,” he explained.

Concluding his remarks, Oquaye Jnr emphasized his commitment to party unity, stating that he would remain patient as the NPP leadership decides on the way forward.

“I will never malign the party or any individual, so for now, I hold my peace as I await to see what steps the party takes,” he added.
