I was caught up in character assassination – Adwoa Safo

Former Dome Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has revealed that she was a victim of character assassination during her tenure, as false narratives and intense criticism severely impacted her reputation.

Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on Thursday afternoon, she disclosed that a deeply personal tragedy coincided with the height of her political career. She suffered the loss of a child, while her elderly son battled a serious illness in the United States.

Due to these circumstances, Ms. Safo traveled abroad to care for her family, ensuring that she informed the necessary authorities and individuals about her situation. However, despite her transparency, her absence was misconstrued, leading to accusations of breaching parliamentary procedures and intense public backlash.

Reflecting on the ordeal, she described the attacks on her character as unfair and damaging, stating: “There is a need to set the record straight… reputation is anything anybody has got. Things that were said about me have stuck in the minds of Ghanaians.”

She stressed that she had been branded unfairly and owed it to herself to clear her name, ensuring that Ghanaians understood her side of the story.
