Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim, has accused the Minority caucus in Parliament of attempting to evade accountability following their criticism of the raid at the residence of former Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison.

Speaking on Accra-based TV3’s New Day show on Thursday, March 20, she noted that the opposition Members of Parliament are just engaging in misplaced propaganda and mischief to sabotage the process.

“We should also be mindful of how the Minority always deliberately positions itself to oppose any action the government takes in its quest to demand audits and accountability from the outgone administration… sometimes exaggerating issues and deliberately misrepresenting government’s actions.

“Misplaced propaganda and mischief are obvious because their intention is to entrench themselves within the system so they can leverage it to sabotage. It is their grand agenda,” she stated.

Her response comes after the Minority called on President John Dramani Mahama to halt such raids, arguing that they tarnish his legacy.

Addressing a press conference at Parliament House in Accra, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin alleged that the operatives, led by Richard Jakpa, stole money and jewelry from the former BoG Governor’s residence.

However, Shamima Muslim defended the raid, stating that it was a standard information-gathering process and part of ongoing investigations into some appointees of the past NPP government.

“I’m yet to get to the office to receive a full briefing on the matter, but what I can say is that there are some actions going on, there are some investigations ongoing, and there are persons of interest who will, now and again, be invited to help the investigation process.

“There are means of gathering information, and one of them is to visit the homes of these persons of interest,” she explained.

In any serious country, Ernest Addison should have been in prison a long time ago for criminally collaborating with its former government to print new currencies on three occasions without the approval of parliament. Just like Ken Ofori-Atta, he was involved in several financial crimes that acted as a catalyst to destroy Ghana's once robust economy, businesses, and investments. Who is sensible enough to allow the NPP to come to power today or tomorrow? Over my dead body.
