The 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) manifesto spokesperson on health, Dr. Ekua Amoakoh, has criticized the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) for what she describes as misplaced priorities.
According to her, instead of focusing on restoring peace in Bawku, where tensions have been escalating, the NIB is busy targeting individuals in their homes.
“One would expect NIB to be preoccupied with the volatile situation in Bawku, which keeps escalating, but noooo, their expertise is going after media men and raiding homes without due process,” she wrote in a social media post on Thursday, March 20.
Her remarks follow the arrest of Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, host of the For the Records social media show, by the NIB on Wednesday, March 19, in Accra under unclear circumstances.
He has since been released following strong condemnation from the opposition NPP and media freedom advocates.
Meanwhile, tensions in Bawku remain high after a military officer, identified as a Warrant Officer Class Two, was reportedly killed on Monday morning, March 17, 2025, near a military buffer zone in one of the conflict hotspots.
The incident has further heightened insecurity in the area, where a joint security task force has been deployed since 2021 to contain the resurgence of violent conflict.
