Hungry National Security Operatives stole cash, jewelry from Ernest Addison’s home raid – Afenyo-Markin

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has accused National Security operatives of stealing valuables, including cash and jewelry, during a raid on the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, on Wednesday, March 19.

Afenyo-Markin alleged that the operatives, led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, took an undisclosed amount of cedis from Dr. Addison's bedroom. He also claimed that earrings and necklaces belonging to Dr. Addison's wife were stolen.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, March 20, Afenyo-Markin condemned the raid, calling it unlawful and an abuse of power. He urged President John Mahama to take immediate action against those responsible.

“Some GHC10,000 on his bed could not be found. So some of these hungry party foot soldiers they use who parade themselves as National Security Operatives are after all perhaps not being paid and they use this opportunity to steal.

“The governor’s wife’s earrings and necklaces were also not traced. They couldn’t be found. In other words, those operatives stole these earrings and necklaces. Ghana is a matured democracy and we should do better,” he stated.

The raid, which occurred at Dr. Addison's private residence in Roman Ridge, Accra, has raised concerns over the actions of security operatives under the new administration. Eyewitnesses reported that heavily armed officers, some in balaclavas and wielding AK-47 rifles, disabled the CCTV system before conducting their search.

Afenyo-Markin pointed to a similar incident involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s home in February 2025, warning that such raids signaled a troubling pattern of political persecution. He called on civil society organizations and human rights advocates to take a stand.

So far, neither the government nor the National Security Secretariat has responded to the allegations. However, pressure is mounting for an independent investigation into the raid and the alleged misconduct of security personnel.

So this miniscule, barking, micro-minority leader has now assumed the role of a spokesperson for the mega-thief Ernest Addison. What is GHc10,000 compared to the GHc60 billion that Addison has nicked from the BoG. If you think this is the end of it, then you have another thing coming.
