Ghanaian broadcast journalist Kwaku Asante has criticized the National Security for what he describes as the indiscriminate arrest of individuals.
The JoyNews Parliamentary Affairs Correspondent argued that unless someone is planning an attack or engaging in terrorism, national security operatives have no business arresting those people.
“You see how dumb Ghanaian national security operatives can be? Always making heroes out of people who are barely even recognized.
“Unless someone is planning to kill or plotting terrorism, national security operatives have no business picking them up—especially not for speech,” he wrote on X on Thursday, March 20.
His remarks follow the arrest of Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, host of the 'For the Records' social media show, by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) on Wednesday, March 19, in Accra under unclear circumstances.
He has since been released following strong condemnation from the opposition NPP and media freedom advocates.
In a related development, some national security operatives, led by Richard Jakpa, reportedly raided the residence of former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Ernest Addison.

Where were you when Akufo Addo and his NPP government were arresting journalists indiscriminately? I rather see you making yourself a hero out of ignorance. I would have given you support if you had spoken against the arrest of Captain Smart, Ohenba Boamah, Kwabena Bobbie Ansah, and others.
