The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Koduah Frimpong, has condemned the arrest of Ghanaian broadcaster Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah by the National Investigations Bureau (NIB).

The host of the 'For the Records' social media show was picked up on Wednesday, March 19, in Accra under unclear circumstances.

He has since been released following strong condemnation from the opposition NPP and media freedom advocates.

Reacting to the development in a social media post, the NPP chief scribe blamed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, led by President John Dramani Mahama.

He described the arrest as a dent in Ghana’s democracy and an attack on the principles of free speech, warning that the country must not descend into tyranny.

“The arrest of Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, a journalist, by the NDC government is a dangerous attack on democracy and freedom of speech! Ghana must not descend into tyranny,” he wrote on X on Wednesday.
