The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, recently paid a visit to Dr. Ernest Addison, the former governor of the Bank of Ghana, following an alarming incident at his residence.
Dr. Addison's home was reportedly invaded by around 20 armed operatives from the National Security, allegedly under the direction of Richard Jakpa, the Director of Special Operations.
During his visit, the Effutu MP expressed deep concern over the raid and assured Dr. Addison that he would seek clarification from the government regarding the incident. The intrusive raid took place on Wednesday, March 19, at Dr. Addison's home located in Roman Ridge, Accra. At the time, the former governor was present when the armed men, some of whom wore balaclavas and carried AK-47 rifles, forced their way in to conduct a search.
Upon arrival, the National Security team quickly disabled the property’s CCTV system before they demanded that Dr. Addison show them the “vaults” within his home. According to Asaase Radio, Dr. Addison informed them that he did not possess any vaults or hidden cash. Nevertheless, the operatives proceeded to ransack the house, according to eyewitness accounts.
Ultimately, no vaults or significant amounts of money were discovered. Following the unsuccessful search, the armed men took the CCTV monitor and control unit with them. A close associate of the Addison family revealed that Dr. Addison, along with his wife and family, are now feeling traumatized from the ordeal.
This incident marks the second time Richard Jakpa has led armed personnel to intrude upon the homes of former high-profile officials from the previous Akufo-Addo administration since President John Mahama took office on January 7, 2025. The first incident involved Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s longest-serving finance minister, whose Labone residence was raided by over 15 armed men on February 10, 2025. That raid was also recorded on CCTV, and the footage was later made public.
