Member of Parliament for Assin South, Reverend John Ntim Fordjour, has hinted at plans to summon Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah before Parliament’s Committee on Defence and Interior.
According to the former Deputy Education Minister, the move is necessitated by the recent reshuffle in the leadership of the Ghana Armed Forces by President John Dramani Mahama.
Rev. Ntim Fordjour said the minister must provide answers and offer assurances on how this unprecedented dismissals will be managed to restore morale among the rank and file of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a social media post on Wednesday, March 19, the NPP MP expressed concerns over the financial implications of the shake-up, particularly the millions of cedis the state will have to spend to train Brigadier Generals who have been promoted to fill the gap left by their dismissed seniors.
“In the exercise of oversight, the Minister for Defence, as a matter of urgency, shall be hauled before the Committee on Defence and Interior to provide answers to these concerns inter alia and offer assurances as to how this unprecedented transition would be managed to restore morale to the rank and file of the Ghana Armed Forces,” he stated.
The lawmaker described the dismissal of 15 senior generals before their scheduled retirement as unprecedented in Ghana’s democratic history.
Speaking earlier on Accra-based Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana show, he urged the president not to sacrifice meritocracy for political loyalty.

The reshuffle was necessary since before the shakeup, the corrupt Akufo Addo polluted and corrupted the military and always hoped there would be a coup to topple the new government. Akufo Addo and his criminals have embezzled so much money to render Ghana bankrupt. Why wasn't John Ntim Fordjuor worried about that but worried about the money involved in the reshuffle? This doesn't make sense.
