The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Malik Basintale, has hailed the 'Work Abroad Programme.'
He described the programme as a transformative step towards tackling youth unemployment while showcasing Ghanaian talent on the global stage.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in collaboration with the Ghanaian-European Centre and European labour institutions, seeks to provide structured employment opportunities while ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions for Ghanaians abroad.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative which has Romania as the initial destination for skilled workers on Tuesday, March 18, he said “The Work Abroad Programme is more than a migration opportunity. We are committed to exporting not just labor, but Ghanaian excellence.”
The programme will facilitate job placements for professionals, artisans, and skilled workers in various sectors, including healthcare, hospitality, and technical trades.
It also includes a reintegration component to support returnees in applying their acquired skills and financial resources to Ghana’s development, he added.
The NDC Deputy National Communications Officer further addressed concerns about brain drain, emphasizing that the programme is structured to benefit both the workers and the nation.
“We have developed a global support system, including legal aid, social support, and reintegration services to ensure that no Ghanaian worker is left vulnerable,” he assured.
The government has established an inter-ministerial committee to oversee the administration and sustainability of the programme.
Key stakeholders, including the Ministries of Labour, Foreign Affairs, and Special Development Initiatives, according to Basintale, played a role in its development.
