Dear critical reader, the question to ponder is: Will publicly publishing the assets of appointees and their spouses buy goodwill and an extended honeymoon period for President Mahama's government?
It will be recalled that not too long ago, President John Dramani Mahama reminded his ministers and appointees to ensure they meet the asset declaration deadline stipulated and required by the 1992 Constitution.
There is no disputing the fact that the vast majority of Ghanaians desire the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to go a step further in meeting the asset declaration constitutional timeframe. This would reassure ordinary people that President Mahama's regime will be markedly different from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) regime of President Akufo-Addo, as it sincerely wants to end high-level corruption in Ghana. This commitment to transparency and accountability would manifest in anchoring their governance culture on an ethical ethos.
If this were to happen, it would make most Ghanaians trust the new government of President Mahama and Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang. They would be encouraged to be patient and bear with the initial difficulties the national economy will experience, as the resetting process gets underway in the new 24-hour economy. This would spark GDP growth, create wealth that remains locally, and generate jobs for the unemployed and school leavers nationwide.
A word to the wise...
