Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has sharply criticized the Interior Minister’s explanation regarding the arrest of Akwatia MP, Ernest Yaw Kumi, raising concerns about potential political interference in the judicial process.

Addressing the press, Afenyo-Markin questioned the Minister’s justification for the National Investigation Bureau’s (NIB) involvement, suggesting possible coordination between the government and the Koforidua High Court to apply the law selectively.

He challenged the Minister’s claim that the court order was carried out by the National Security Coordinator’s representative in the Eastern Region before being forwarded to the NIB. According to Afenyo-Markin, this process contradicts Ghana’s legal framework and raises serious questions about due process.

To seek further clarification, he announced his intention to file an urgent question in Parliament, demanding answers from the Interior Minister regarding the alleged collusion between the Judiciary in the Eastern Region and the National Security Coordinator.

As a strong advocate for transparency and accountability, Afenyo-Markin’s concerns over the arrest of Ernest Yaw Kumi highlight the need for closer scrutiny of how legal and security institutions enforce the law in Ghana.
